Mirta D’Argenzio – Robert Rauschenberg

The first Italian retrospective after his recent demise, the exhibition covers in detail work done in the Seventies during his travels in India, Israel, Egypt and Italy, which generated the wonderful series Cardboard, Hoarfrost, Early Egyptian, Venetian, Pyramid and Jammer period, all present in the exhibition.

Each work is elaborated with the technique of assemblage, using common objects or pieces of reclaimed objects and immersed in an artistic dimension according to the Dada concept of the ready-made; a meeting point between art and life and painting and collage.

The richly illustrated catalogue includes previously unpublished interviews from his travel companions, and fellow artists, Brice Marden and Mayo Thompson, as well as heartfelt reminiscences from Branden Joseph and Mirta d’Argenzio. With this important exhibition, the Madre museum in Naples confirms its role as a centre of excellence for Contemporary Art in Italy.
