The Madre – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina of Naples, is organizing a large retrospective exhibition from 22nd April to 18th September 2006 of the work of Jannis Kounellis, one of the most important figures on the Italian art scene of the post-Second World War period.
The exhibition, which is being curated in close collaboration with Kounellis by the Director of the Museum, Eduardo Cicelyn and by the Chief Curator Mario Codognato, aims to reconstruct almost fifty years of the artist’s prestigious career through works and installations from museums, foundations and private collections from all over the world, and will be accompanied by a large illustrated catalogue in Italian and English.
It has also been decided for the occasion to recount Jannis Kounellis’ twenty-five-year association with the city of Naples through the presentation of the most important works he displayed at Lucio Amelio’s gallery between 1969 and 1994.
