E IL TOPO. Storia di una rivista d’artista con un’insolita strategia editoriale is a double volume edited by Gabriele di Matteo and Franco Silvestro, published by a+mbookstore, produced and released with the support of the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities as part of the Italian Council programme (2022). The publishing project E IL TOPO — which reconstructs the evolution and outcomes of the eponymous artist’s magazine published from 1992 to 1996 and from 2012 to the present — consists of a slipcase containing two volumes, along with eight artist posters. The first tome comprises an “exact and faithful” reproduction of all 33 issues of the magazine in anastatic reprint and original dimensions; the second tome reconstructs, through critical contributions by Anna Cuomo, Françoise Lonardoni, and Giorgio Verzotti, the conceptual matrix from which this singular example of collective independent publishing originated. Over the years, a wide range of artists and authors have contributed to the magazine, among them: Stefano Arienti, Massimo Bartolini, Vanessa Beecroft, IAIN BAXTER&, Maurizio Cattelan, Mark Dion, Jimmie Durham, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, John Lurie, Eva Marisaldi, Miltos Manetas, Amedeo Martegani, Cesare Viel, Luca Vitone, and others.
