Bruna Esposito (Rome, 1960), one of the most established Italian artists on the international scene, has distinguished herself from the earliest years of her practice through a heterogeneous approach to artistic production. Installation, performance, video, and photography merge into a personal vocabulary nourished by disciplines such as music, literature, and dance.
The volume documents a selection of 40 works made over the past twenty years. The title Con questi chiari di luna declares the artist’s interest in popular sayings — confirmed by the titles of the works themselves, in whose often naturalistic metaphors an archaic wisdom is layered. The colloquial character that defines them reveals a sense of familiarity: passed down from generation to generation, proverbial expressions become part of that intimate lexicon upon which individual identity is built, and in which a shared memory is celebrated.
The recurrence of materials and interests across Esposito’s works reveals a consistent and committed artistic practice, inflected in a dimension that is at once ethical and aesthetic — one of delicate precision, whose outcome is a quiet poetic density.
