Tongue on Flames

Talk and poetry reading with Lina Pallotta, Michele Bertolino, and Carmen Gallo

Lina Pallotta, a photographer who lives between Rome and New York, in conversation with curator Michele Bertolino, leafing through the book Tongue on Flames, recalls the poetic culture of New York in the 1990s and 2000s, with particular attention to poetry slam evenings and the experimental energy of the Nuyorican Poets Café.

Tongue on Flames, published by NERO Editions, brings together Pallotta’s images with key voices from the scene at the time, capturing the humor, rhythm, and community of underground poetry. It includes poems by Sapphire, Patricia Smith, Janice Erlbaum, John Giorno, Pedro Pietri, Bob Holman, Paul Beatty, and many others.
