Barock. Art, science, faith and technology in the contemporary age

Concurrent with the great Baroque season which opens at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples in October 2009, the MADRE (Donna Regina Contemporary Art Museum in Naples) is organizing an exhibition with the aim of comparing the 17th century, the period when Baroque painting was at its height, with our own time. On the one hand, both historical periods have a background of revolutionary scientific discoveries which have transformed our way of living and thinking and, on the other, have experienced deep-rooted religious fanaticism.
By examining the work of contemporary artists who are sensitive to this kind of subject, this is an attempt to analyze the spirit of the time. A scientific committee, comprising historians, critics and experts of international renown, will give a horizontal slant to the exhibition and, at the same time, ensure expert curatorship.
